In a fitting finale, internationally acclaimed designer Rajesh Pratap Singh brought Dubai Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2011 to a dazzling finish. Showing to a packed house, bursting at its seams with people eager to view his latest offerings. With a dramatically delayed start, the show opened with three stiff translucent printed outfits offering tantalizing glimpses of the female silhouette within. Renowned for his use of de-structured cuts and sleek finishing, the 'cocoon' inspired dresses with dropped shoulders and tapering hemlines were carefully structured to stay away from the body.
The sombre show saw black dominating the colour palette. Bursts of colour were seen in floral motifs, which were seen for the very first time in a Rajesh Pratap Singh collection. Outfits of orange and black were adorned with pixellated roses and appliqués. The outfits were also given subtle infusions of reds, greys and whites. A black collared playsuit was preceded by a completely sequinned short tunic worn with chains of gold draped around the models. An ankle length immaculate wine gown followed knee length dresses in laser cut leather.
Models walked the glossy black ramp in outfits of metallic fabric, silk georgettes, leather and velvet. A metal ikat pattern, designed from scratch was seen in a number of the outfits as geometrical prints of hexagonal shapes featured heavily in the 41 spectacular creations that defined the collection. The show closed with ankle-length velvet coats in deep burgundy, navy blue and black.
